Biography

I am Professor of Social Innovation and co-lead the Social Innovation Institute whose aim is to utilise the broad expertise of the University to make a difference to people in Salford, nationally and globally. I have worked in innovation and new product development for nearly 30 years, exploring new products and services and helping organisations understand the importance of innovation. I advocate customer and data centric innovation which is the most effective and efficient way of delivering effective change.
My background is theoretical physics, leaving academia after a post-doc in Queensland. I subsequently worked for Vodafone, consulted at Microsoft Research, and was Head of Innovation at Nationwide where I architected two social innovation incubators that delivered £6m in savings for Nationwide members and £35m for wider society. I have also helped build and develop start-ups and am a trained Innovation coach.

Areas of Research

My interest lies in innovation methodologies and tools and their application to social issues to deliver a real impact.
