Dr Neil Malone
Salford Business School
Current positions
Lecturer
Biography
Neil lectures across a range of modules at Salford Business School, with a focus on the intersection of technology, business and culture. He joined The Â׸£ÀûƬ in 2018 after several years teaching in HE and spending over a decade in industry as both a senior manager and practitioner in the digital, online and creative industries. He welcomes enquiries regarding PhD supervision in these fields as well as videogames more broadly. His PhD, completed 2021, explored nascent entrepreneurship, new venture creation and indie videogame start-ups.
During his time in industry, Neil worked extensively on international projects in both Europe and Asia. As Operations Manager at Jagex - one of the UK's leading games studios, with over 200 million players globally - and as a project manager at UCLan, he delivered large-scale, complex change management and outsourcing projects as part of an award-winning team. Across these roles he developed a track record of engaging at the highest levels of industry and government: chairing task force subgroups, contributing to national guidance documents and collaborating with organisations ranging from the EU Commission and the BBC to national law enforcement agencies - building the kind of cross-sector relationships and policy influence that can be rare in academe.
