Biography

Andrea Genovese is Professor of Circular Economy at Salford Business School. His research examines how production and supply systems can transition towards ecological sustainability and social responsibility, with particular attention to circular economy, post-growth supply chains, and democratic governance of economic activity.

Originally trained in industrial engineering, Professor Genovese combines quantitative modelling and qualitative research approaches. His work bridges operations and supply chain management, ecological economics, and sustainability transitions, focusing on the organisational, logistical, and institutional transformations required to move beyond linear production systems.

His research has recently addressed: circular supply chain design and capabilities; rebound effects and unintended consequences of circular economy policies; metrics and decision-support systems for sustainable operations; governance, value theory, and plural valuation in sustainability transitions; industrial resilience, strategic autonomy, and geopolitics of supply chains; post-growth production systems and democratic economic planning.

Professor Genovese has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals, including International Journal of Operations and Production Management, International Journal of Production Economics, and Ecological Economics. He has led and contributed to several multi-million pound European research projects and has engaged with policy discussions at national and European level.

At Salford, he contributes to research and teaching in circular economy, sustainable operations, and supply chain management, and is committed to developing interdisciplinary research collaborations that generate impact beyond academia.
