Biography

Dr Ahmed Naggasa is a Teaching Fellow in Civil Engineering at the Â׸£ÀûƬ. He leads and contributes to several undergraduate and postgraduate modules, bringing both academic expertise and industry-informed insight into the classroom. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering (2023), an MSc in Structural Engineering (2015), and a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering (2014). In addition, he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) in 2022 and is recognised as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

He is currently a Graduate Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and a Student Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, reflecting his ongoing engagement with the professional community.

Since 2022, he has taken a leading role in the Design and Construction Management (DCM) module, which includes coordinating the Constructionarium field course — a unique six-day residential experience where students construct scaled versions of real civil engineering projects in a simulated industry setting.

Areas of Research

The research investigates the long-term behaviour of masonry arch bridges affected by foundation movement. In particular, it focuses on:

• Applying numerical software tools to assess the condition and performance of masonry structures through detailed inspection and monitoring.

• Using computational models to analyse the structural behaviour and stability of masonry bridges.

• Developing maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation strategies supported by numerical simulations to improve the durability of masonry infrastructure.
