Countdown to September as an International Foundation Year Student
Your move to Salford will come around quickly, and we can't wait to welcome you to our community! We know starting university can feel a bit scary, especially if this is your first time studying in the UK, but don’t worry, our friendly team is here to support you. Please read the information below carefully and complete the tasks promptly to make sure you can start your course on time.

Getting your results and visa
Getting your results
- We don’t automatically receive your results, so as soon as you get your results, you must upload them to the . If you have other outstanding conditions you need to meet, e.g. uploading your English Language qualifications and paying your deposit, you must do this as well.
- You must upload all your documents and meet all your conditions as early as possible and before 14 July, to secure your place on the course.
- If you applied via an agent/counsellor, you can ask them to assist you with this.
Getting your Student Visa
- If you require a visa to study in the UK, you should start preparing your documents and finances now. When you receive your results, you must have all your documents ready. You must have the required money in your bank account for 28 days. This will allow you to apply for your CAS as soon as you get your results.
- Read all the information on our CAS and Visa page carefully and follow the instructions. If you applied through an agent or counsellor, they can guide you through the process.
What to do when you get your unconditional offer
Once you have your unconditional offer, give yourself a big cheer, woohoo! But you can’t relax yet as there are more tasks you need to complete before you can become an official Â׸£ÀûƬ student.
Below is a checklist of things you need to do once you have an unconditional offer:
- Submit your CAS documents as soon as possible. If you are late, you may not be able to start your course on time.
- Apply for your Visa as soon as you have your CAS
- Book your accommodation
- Book your travel to arrive in time to complete Check-in on campus before Welcome Week and induction starts
- Start online registration and book your Check-in appointment
- Pack your essential documents and belongings and travel to the UK if you aren't already here
- Attend your Check-in appointment face-to-face on our campus
- Pay your tuition fees in full to get a 3% discount or set up a payment plan
- Complete online registration by filling in your personal details
- Access your university learning systems
- Join your on-campus induction and Welcome Week starting on Monday 7 September

Our academic support team are here to help you develop the skills and confidence you’ll need to succeed in your studies, now and at each stage of your university journey.
Whether you want to improve your writing or communication skills, develop your digital capabilities, find information for your assignments, brush up on your maths, or get into good study habits, you'll find a flexible range of support.
You can access eLearning online anytime, anyplace. Topics include learning at university, preparing for assessments, referencing, and much more. We run free online workshops on a wide range of topics throughout the year, and if you need more specialist support you can book an individual appointment with one of the team.
If English isn’t your first language, Learn English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) offers a range of free online workshops, help and support that you can benefit from while you study. Check out the video below to discover more about LEAP.

Timetables and term dates
We know that you’ll be keen to see your timetable for your first year, and although this won’t be available until early September, we can give you some general information about what to expect.
We divide the academic year into three terms, known as trimesters - each trimester is 13 weeks (39 weeks in total). The dates that your course starts and finishes within these weeks will vary, as all courses vary slightly in length.

Accommodation and settling in
If you're staying in Peel Park Quarter or John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts, Campus Living Villages will email you closer to the start to term to invite you to book your time of arrival. There will be options to arrive outside of normal working hours, so no matter how far you’re travelling from, you’ll be able to move in at a time that suits you.
Lots of students arrive around the same time, so follow CLV's instructions carefully to make the process as smooth as possible.

Welcome Week
Welcome Week starts on Monday 7 September. It's a full week of activities to help you get settled in, meet teaching staff, learn more about your course and make friends. It's designed to help you hit the ground running and feel at home from day one.
You'll get a timetable of induction activities specifically for your course, and there will also be loads of other fun events to help you settle in and make friends. Watch the video below to see what's in store.
Getting support
Moving abroad for university is exciting, but it can be a stressful time too. There is support available to you at the Â׸£ÀûƬ whenever you need it. For any issues that you might be dealing with, you will have access to our askUS student support teams.

Our Students’ Union (SU) works around the clock to make sure that you love your life at Salford. The SU is run by students for students, and will represent you during your time at Salford. Be sure to visit them when you arrive on campus and join in all the fun activities to make your time at Salford a truly unforgettable experience.
