Sport and Exercise Science degree in Clearing

Our sport and exercise science Clearing course will help you develop skills in analysing and evaluating performance at every level – from recreational exercisers to elite athletes.

You'll study both traditional and contemporary areas of sport and exercise science, learning how to assess the fitness and performance needs of clients to design appropriate exercise programmes.

Our human performance laboratory is one of the best in the country, containing:

Physiological, performance analysis, and biomechanical testing equipment;

A 30-metre sprint track with inbuilt force platforms;

Motion capture systems;

Blood and gas analysis tools;

Speed guns

Our strength and conditioning suite has dedicated PowerLift platforms to learn advanced training techniques, as well as a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer to assess muscle function and asymmetries.

If you join us through a sport and exercise science Clearing place, you’ll also access the same gait labs and exercise and physiology laboratory used by researchers at the Centre for Health and Sciences Research. These include gas analysis systems, blood analysers, and isokinetic testing conditions.

BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science

In your first two years on our Sport and Exercise Science Clearing course, you’ll study core sport and exercise science modules. This will build a strong foundation across physiology, sport psychology, and sport nutrition – essential for careers across sport, health, and fitness sectors.

In your final year, you’ll choose from specialist pathways, shaping your studies around your career goals. These optional modules – like Applied Sport and Exercise Practice, Advanced Strength and Conditioning, and Advanced Performance Analysis – will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge needed for a career in sport, health, and performance.
