What our students say about studying Accounting and Finance at Salford
Huda's Story
BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance student, Huda, shares her experience on placements, careers support, and the industry-ready skills she’s gaining:
“Salford’s career and industry support have been amazing. After advice from my programme leads, I chose a placement year and gained real industry experience before I graduated.”
During her studies, Huda received support from the Business School and Careers and Enterprise team, including help with CV writing, mock interviews, and opportunities to connect with employers.
"Thanks to this support, I feel ready and confident to succeed in the industry.”
Harry’s story
Harry, a BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance with Placement Year graduate, tells us about his experience on placement at the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Foundation Trust:
“I wanted to gain more experience and expand on what I’d been learning at university to make sure that when I finished my degree, I was as prepared as possible to join the financial and accounting world.
At a presentation organised through my course, I got information about placements at the National Care Alliance. After that, I applied for a placement role and interviewed.
Throughout my placement, I delt a lot with the NHS PE weekly files. NHS PE is a standalone organisation that provides medical and agency staff. They sent me an invoice for the shifts staff worked and I managed the cost centres, data and formulas, sent these to each care organisation, then posted a journal to get it on the ledger. I loved it. I enjoyed the responsibility. There were weekly deadlines to keep on top of, but I learned a lot.
I can’t stress enough how much I recommend doing a placement. You need to go in with the right attitude, but if you do, you’ll gain skills you didn’t know you needed to learn. You get a real grasp of the working world, and it gets you into successful working habits. It’s been rewarding and challenging – but most importantly, really enjoyable.”
